Videography: Jordan Kourupes

Tattooing and videography, a collaborative project That came together by the help of many hands. I am happy to share the results with you. And more so, I’d love to share the man behind the camera and credit him for all of his work.

I had the incredible opportunity of working with Jordan Kourupes directly on this collaborative video project. After chatting with him about his job in videography, photography, and general arts; I was able to get an interview with Jordan to show off what he does and how this project came together this is what he had to say:

1.    Brief introduction:

My name is Jordan Kourupes, I’m 26, and I’m currently living in Ashland, Oregon.

    2.    What is your job?

I am an artist who independently contracts with clients to do videography and photography. I create anything from brand videos to social media content and portrait photography.

    3.    How long have you been doing this?

I’ve been doing this type of work professionally for almost 8 years now! Crazy how time flies!

    4.    What got you started?

I’ve always been into creating since I was a kid. As I was getting out of high school one of my good friends, Seth Benham and I, started a business doing video work professionally and that allowed me to acquire skills on a next level. Early on, I developed a passion for doing creative portrait photography when I got an opportunity to take photos for a friend of mine who needed headshots for a modeling gig. I became really interested in doing creative shoots and exploring all types of different styles and lighting.

    5.    What do you like about your job?

I love that with my work, it’s always different. I can never get bored because there’s always new things to try, ways I can be better. It’s taken me to interesting places and allowed me to meet some really unique and amazing people. I’m always surprised by what I’m able to create with the beauty of life. It’s really fulfilling for me.

    6.    Where do you pull inspiration from?

Literally everywhere. I try to allow myself to be inspired by anything. When I look at movies, tv shows, or a really great photo I like, I take an extra minute to think about why I’m so interested in it. I pick apart the little details and I think that’s what’s developed my own unique taste and style. Every moment in life, interactions with people, including your surroundings can bring inspiration if you’re open to it.

    7.    What did the process of putting this project together look like?

Since Jaiden and I had already done a previous video, I spent a lot of time thinking about how we can make this one a little different and more special. I wanted to tell a story and try some techniques inspired by the new season of [the television show] Euphoria. I got this idea of doing highlight clips of some notable clients on video, rather than just using photos. I created a mood board with my inspiration and notes on it, including music options. I know Jaiden had been listening to a lot of [the music artist] Anderson Paak lately so I saw a perfect opportunity to incorporate his music into the video ideas I envisioned, I feel like you don’t usually see that.

    8.    What do you hope for the future?

I hope in the future to expanded my creative horizons even more. Now that I’m feeling more confident in my ideas I want to bring something different with my art that I’ve never done before and that maybe people haven’t seen before. I’m excited for what the future will hold because of the abundance of creative ideas and opportunity of people and friends to make and share them with.

    9.    Advice for someone who is interested in this field?

My advice for anyone in any sort of creative field is to always know that you can be better, there’s no rules, no limit to what you can do and that can be a really exciting thing. My other piece of advice would be to never put yourself in a box, or put anyone else’s limitations on yourself. If it feels right to you, even if no one else is doing it or it’s never been done before, don’t let that stop you from creating your art the way you want to. We need more of that.

    10.    What all do you offer and how might someone inquire with you?

I offer video and photography services of a wide range, but I’m hoping to work on more creative projects like this one with Jaiden where I’m able to try something unique and artistic, to explore different angles of creativity. Most people reach out to me via Instagram: @jordy.kourupes I’m open to messages on any of my social media platforms as well as my email jordan@novumvisuals.com I look forward to working with more amazing people like Jaiden in the future!

A huge thank you to Jordan and all of the many hands that went into creating this project! Be sure to check out all of the links left above as well as give the original video we co-created a watch! I had so much fun on this project and extremely pleased with the outcome. Thank you again Jordan!
